Comments Agent

Auto-reply to public comments and DM commenters — with keyword automations, plus an AI Comments Agent for everything else.

Comments console — posts, prompt editor, automations, and history.

Overview

The Comments page is your Instagram and Facebook engagement console. It pairs a keyword-automation engine (deterministic, always wins) with an AI Comments Agent that replies to comments your keyword rules didn't catch. A keyword automation can post a public reply, send a private DM, or both — always using your own prewritten text. Configure the AI Comments Agent's voice on the Agent tab; keyword rules live in Automations.

Tabs on this page

Rule-based automations that reply to comments with your prewritten text when they match your keywords.

Trigger modes

Any keyword, All keywords, or Exact match. Keywords match via plain text substring — deterministic, no false positives.

Reply Type (Public Comment / Private DM / Both)

Choose what the automation sends. The form's step count expands or collapses based on this selection — only the relevant fields appear.

Public Comment Reply

The exact reply posted on the comment. Set one shared reply, or a different reply per channel (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok). A reply is required — it's always your own prewritten text.

Private DM

Two modes: Same as comment (sends the comment reply as a DM) or Custom preset (a verbatim DM message you write). Optional Pause AI after DM toggle (default off) hands the next reply to a human. TikTok does not support comment→DM.

Response delay + cooldown

Response delay (default 30 s) makes replies feel less robotic. Dedupe window / cooldown prevents the same commenter from triggering the same automation twice in N hours.

Auto-expiry

Optional datetime picker (with preset shortcuts) that auto-disables an automation at a future date. Past dates show a warning. Filtered out of the live pipeline as soon as the timestamp passes.

Credits & billing

Each triggered comment costs 1 credit (a public reply, a DM, or both = 1). Every paid plan includes 250 free Comments Automation credits a month; larger pools are $35 (2,500), $89 (7,500) and $179 (25,000). See your usage in Settings → Billing.

Features

Matching flow (deterministic-first)

On each comment: load enabled, non-deleted, non-expired automations → run all keyword automations (substring match) → if any match, fire its prewritten reply and stop. If no keyword automation matches, the comment falls through to the AI Comments Agent (when it's enabled).

Execute phase

Dedupe check → increment trigger count → resolve reply language (the user-picked one; auto-detect was removed because single comments aren't a reliable signal) → produce comment text (preset or AI) → produce DM text (same / preset / AI) → schedule send after the response-delay → record dedupe immediately so a duplicate comment within the cooldown window is silently skipped.

Echo handling (DM appears in inbox)

When the IG echo for the automation DM arrives, the conversation is created with source = 'ig_dm' and a comment_automation_context payload (post caption, comment text, automation name). The original public comment is persisted as the first user-role message so the customer's intent is preserved if they reply.

Common tasks

Edit the AI Comment Agent Prompt

About 3 min
  1. Open the sidebar → Instagram Comments AI.
  2. Switch to the AI Prompt tab. (Bookmarks to the old ?tab=ai-settings URL are auto-migrated.)
  3. Edit the prompt directly, or click any token in the System Variables sidebar to insert it at the cursor. Toggle Diff view to compare against the last saved version.
  4. Click Save in the floating save bar at the bottom — changes apply on the next incoming comment.

Create a deterministic keyword automation

About 4 min
  1. Open the sidebar → Instagram Comments AI → Automations tab.
  2. Click New Automation. Step 1 (Trigger): pick Any keyword / All keywords / Exact match and add the keywords.
  3. Step 2 (Reply Type): choose Public Comment, Private DM, or Both — the next steps appear/disappear based on your choice.
  4. Step 3 (Public Comment Reply, if enabled): write the reply to post — one shared reply, or a different reply per channel. A reply is required.
  5. Step 4 (Private DM, if enabled): pick Same as comment or a Custom preset DM message. Toggle Pause AI after DM if a human should handle the follow-up.
  6. Step 5 (Timing): set the response delay and dedupe window. Step 6 (Settings): name it, toggle Enabled, optionally set Auto-expiry, and Save.

Auto-expire an automation

About 1 min
  1. Open the automation in Edit mode and go to Step 6 — Settings.
  2. Toggle Auto-expiry on, pick a datetime (or use a preset shortcut like "In 7 days").
  3. Save. Past dates show a warning; the pipeline filters expired automations out of every webhook hit automatically.

Tips

Keyword automations always win over the AI Comments Agent — a matched keyword rule fires its prewritten reply and the agent never sees that comment. If keyword matching is firing on the wrong things, tighten the keywords (use Exact match).
Automation replies are always your own prewritten text — write them in whatever language your audience comments in.
Combine a public reply with a private DM on one automation to answer publicly and follow up in the DMs — still 1 credit for the pair.
Disabling a post via the Posts tab silences automations and the AI Comments Agent. Toggling Comments Agent off in agent settings only silences the agent — keyword automations keep firing.
