Message buffer delay

How long the system waits and groups fast-arriving messages before the AI replies.

Higher = better message grouping; lower = faster replies.

Overview

Customers often send several short messages in a row. The buffer delay tells the system how long to wait before processing them as a single turn — so the AI sees the full thought instead of reacting to a partial sentence. Lower values feel snappier but may cause premature replies; higher values are more patient but add perceived latency.

Features

Delay slider

Ranges from 1 second to 5 minutes. Default is 8 seconds. 1-3s for snappy replies, 8-20s for natural grouping, up to 5 min for maximum aggregation.

Common tasks

Tune the message buffer delay

About 1 min
  1. Open the sidebar → Configuration → Agent Configuration → General.
  2. Scroll to Message Buffer Delay and drag the slider. Lower = snappier replies; higher (15-30s) = better grouping for customers who send many short messages in a row.
  3. Click Save.

Tips

If customers often send 4-5 short messages before completing a thought, go 20-30 seconds. You'll get fewer "I didn't finish" follow-ups.
For support use cases where every second matters, 2-3 seconds keeps replies feeling live.
